S. L. King & Associates, Inc. (SLKA) is proud to celebrate the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Renovation & Expansion, recognized by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast as a 2026 Best Project in the Cultural/Worship category.

Submitted for award consideration by Juneau Construction Company, the approximately $24 million renovation and expansion represent an important new chapter for one of Atlanta's most significant cultural institutions.

For SLKA, the recognition is especially meaningful because the firm's connection to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights extends back to the development of the original facility.

A Relationship Spanning Multiple Chapters

SLKA initially provided full mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection (MEP/FP) engineering services in support of the original facility beginning in 2010.

More than a decade later, SLKA returned to support the Center's major renovation and expansion, serving as Lead Electrical Engineer and providing Construction Administration services, as part of the multidisciplinary project team.

The expansion added approximately 21,400 square feet through new east and west wings, creating additional gallery, educational, events, visitor-support and operational spaces designed to further the Center's mission and enhance the visitor experience.

SLKA's involvement continued in 2025, when the firm was again engaged to provide electrical design services for a new café within the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

The 2026 ENR Southeast Best Project recognition celebrates the collective expertise and collaboration of the project team and underscores the impact of thoughtfully designed spaces that serve their communities.

For SLKA, the honor also represents another significant addition to the firm's growing portfolio of award-winning civic and cultural projects.

From supporting the engineering of the original facility to contributing to its expansion and subsequent improvements, SLKA is proud to have played a role in multiple chapters of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights' evolution.

The project will be formally recognized at the ENR Southeast Best Projects Awards on October 23, 2026, in Orlando, Florida.

Congratulations to Juneau Construction Company and the entire project team on this outstanding achievement.
