S. L. King & Associates, Inc. (SLKA) received the 2026 ACEC Georgia Engineering Excellence Honor Award in the Building/Technology Systems category for its engineering work on Brookhaven City Centre, a landmark civic facility in Brookhaven, Georgia. Serving as Lead MEP/FP Engineer, SLKA delivered comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering, including energy and load analysis, controls strategies, utility coordination, and construction support through commissioning integration and closeout.

The approximately 58,250-square-foot City Centre represents a new generation of sustainable, community-centered municipal facilities. Designed to pursue LEED Gold and WELL Gold certifications, the facility is Georgia's first municipal building constructed primarily of mass timber and integrates high-performance building systems with flexible civic, administrative and community spaces.

SLKA's engineering approach addressed the complexities of multiple occupancies, demanding sustainability and wellness objectives, mass-timber integration, urban site constraints, and long-term operational requirements through coordinated, high-performance MEP/FP solutions.

The ACEC Georgia Honor Award recognizes the project's engineering innovation, technical excellence, and contribution to the future of sustainable civic design.
